About the event
The 1st Uganda National Scientific Conference on Rare Diseases is a national scientific convening hosted in Uganda, bringing together researchers, healthcare professionals, policymakers, patient representatives, and partners to advance coordinated approaches to rare disease research and innovation.
The conference is nationally anchored and designed to support Uganda’s ongoing efforts in health research, genomics, and clinical science, while fostering constructive exchange with regional and continental research communities. It provides a structured platform for dialogue, evidence sharing, and collaboration aimed at strengthening rare disease research within existing institutional, regulatory, and health system frameworks.
Rare diseases collectively affect millions of people across Africa, yet they remain underrepresented in research, clinical trials, and therapeutic development. By convening diverse stakeholders around shared scientific priorities, this conference seeks to contribute to a more coordinated and evidence-informed response—beginning in Uganda, with relevance to broader African contexts.
